A massive 5-alarm fire thrashed a Home Depot in San Jose, California located on 920 Blossom Hill Road between Santa Teresa and Winfield Boulevards on the evening of Saturday, April 9. First reports of the fire came in at around 5 p.m. and as of now, a shelter in place has been issued to residents of the El Lisa Drive area. There were thankfully no reported injuries of firefighters or local citizens. However, thick smoke surrounded the building and area around it, and was able to be seen from miles away. The origin of the fire is likely a long way from being discovered but fire officials have received initial reports that the blaze allegedly started near the lumber section of the store. According to the San Jose Fire Department, it took about six and a half hours to put the fire out from when it originally ignited.

The fire was so large that it could be seen from space and actually showed up on the National Weather Service’s weather radar. San Jose Police Department’s battalion chief said that “The Home Depot is pretty much a total loss, the roof is pretty much collapsed from the entire structure so it’s going to take some time to get in there if we even can.”
