On September 24th, firefighters were called to a three-alarm blaze at a South River, New Jersey building. Flames poured out of the windows of the building, sending billowing plumes of smoke into the air. The business owners heard a loud explosion, causing them to evacuate immediately and call 911. The fire quickly spread to the second-floor apartments, displacing several families who lost almost everything.
It is still unclear how the fire started and the scene continues to be under investigation. The American Red Cross of New Jersey will provide support to the displaced families, offering assistance with accommodations, meals, and clothing. Authorities evacuated all nearby businesses while dozens of fire crews and multiple fire trucks arrived to help extinguish the fire which lasted through the night.
