An explosion occurred at Michigan’s White Lake Township refinery on Friday, November 24th, around 10:00 p.m. The blast was so powerful that it shook homes from miles away. A second explosion happened several minutes later at the crude oil recovery plant, owned by Hound Resources at Young and Bogie Lake. Some residents did not know what had occurred and feared the worst. Firefighters from surrounding counties helped put out the blaze. Within hours, the extensive fire was successfully put out. Around thirty-five residences in White Lake required evacuation, and local roads were closed off.
The Oakland County Hazardous Materials Response Team tested the air and water quality. The White Lake police officials are looking into the cause of the incident and continue to investigate. The company is also working with EAGLE (Environmental and Great Lakes Energy) to determine the cause. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
